PROJECTS
GIRLS FOOTBALL
I've been supporting a wonderful project in the highlands of Madagascar, helping young girls with their education and football! The Talenta School Project supports the community through a football school, education and conservation activities.
TREE PLANTING
To counteract deforestation, tree seeds are being gathered by villagers. A local tree nurseryman visits villages to teach the people how to start and tend nurseries, germinate the seeds and grow on into saplings. He later oversees the planting out of young trees. The enthusiasm for this new Dodwell Trust project is heart-warming. We continue to have an annual collaboration with the local NGO DEFI for planting a hectare of seedling tapia, habitat of wild silkworms and unique to Madagascar. Project duration 2021-2025
EDUCATION SCHOLARSHIPS
One of our pupils previously from our Ampefy Centre primary school who has been sponsored through secondary and college studies, has achieved entrance to the university in Tana. He is studying Physical chemistry.
There are 10 other Dodwell students still being sponsored through secondary school, and we wait to hear if they will be taking skills courses or further study.
Solar Lighting in Papua New Guinea
Recently things fell into place to do a project in a very remote area of Papua New Guinea, providing solar lamps to a village and training for 6 local young men and women in installation and repair, with delivery in a canoe expedition by explorer friends. A few solar street lights will be included to light up the communal toilet areas, and for the village basketball pitch so it can be used in evenings. This village is special to me as I’d been initiated into their tribe 40 years ago.
